Long inspections and detailed surveys can leave you with large amounts of data. Transferring all those recordings wirelessly from the drone can take a long time, especially when filming in 4K.

That's why we have developed Blueye External Storage. It lets you record directly to a removable USB-C storage device mounted on the ROV, so your footage is quickly available when you are back on the surface. Blueye External Storage is compatible with the Blueye X1, X3, X3 Ultra and X7.

How it works

Blueye External Storage is a waterproof aluminium housing that connects to the drone through Guest Port 3 (GP3). The housing opens so you can insert a USB-C flash drive, and it is designed to fit the Samsung USB-C Flash Drive. With an adapter, you can also use other storage options such as microSD.

The housing can be mounted onto the battery cover with a dedicated clip. When you connect the drive to the ROV for the first time, the Blueye App asks you to format it with the exFAT file system. The app then shows how much free space is available, so you can keep track of storage during your dives.

Two ways to access your files

You can still transfer files through the Blueye App or the Blunux Web App without removing the drive. Media on the external storage works just like media on the drone's internal storage, and a small icon on each file shows where it is stored.

For the fastest transfer, open the housing, remove the drive and connect it directly to your computer. With the Samsung USB-C Flash Drive, transfer speeds reach up to 400 MB/s over USB 3.1, and your files are ready for editing, reporting or archiving straight away.
