One operating system, fewer tools
Blunux is the software backbone of every Blueye underwater drone. It handles communication, control, and data management below the surface, enabling operators to focus on the mission rather than the technology. The Blunux Web App builds directly on this foundation. By moving ROV file transfer into the Blunux ecosystem, users can now access photos, videos, and files through a standard web browser, reducing software dependencies and improving flexibility across devices and operating environments.
Blueye File Transfer is now deprecated
With Blunux v4.5, the Blueye File Transfer has officially been deprecated. The File Transfer App was initially developed to enable media access on devices that do not run the Blueye App. While effective, maintaining a separate application became unnecessary as Blunux evolved into a more complete underwater drone software platform. All functionality previously handled by the Blueye File Transfer App is now entirely replaced by the Blunux Web App.
What is the Blunux Web App?
The Blunux Web App is a local, browser-based interface for accessing media files stored on a Blueye ROV. When connected to the drone, users can preview, select, and download photos, videos, multibeam files, dive logs, and other mission files directly from Blunux using a web browser.
In addition to file access, the Web App provides insight into drone status, dive telemetry, and system diagnostics. This makes it a practical tool both offshore and onshore, especially in environments where installing dedicated software is impractical or restricted.
Key updates include:
- New, modern design optimized for clarity and ease of use
- Media browser for previewing photos and videos directly in the browser
- File browser for structured access to all files stored on the drone
- Dive telemetry overview, including mission data, media, and associated files
- Live system information and diagnostics when connected to the drone
- Drone software updates directly in the web app, without installing additional tools
- User-specific preferences, such as language, time format, and data display options
These additions make the Blunux Web App more than a replacement for the Blueye File Transfer, turning it into a central access point for underwater drone data and system insight.
Built into the Blunux ecosystem
Blunux is Blueye's underwater drone operating system, the software that enables control, communication, and data handling below the surface. The Blunux Web App extends this ecosystem by providing an accessible way to interact with collected data. By consolidating control, communication, and ROV file transfer into a single software platform, Blueye continues to reduce friction between data collection and decision-making.
Designed for real-world ROV operations
Simple ROV file transfer: Transfer inspection footage and mission media efficiently without interrupting the existing workflow.
Cross-platform and device-independent: The Blunux Web App works across operating systems and devices, enabling flexible use in the field, on board vessels, or in office environments.
Integrated underwater drone software: Because the Web App is part of Blunux, updates and improvements are delivered as part of the same operating system that runs the drone.
Getting started with the Blunux Web App
The Blunux Web App is available with Blunux v4.5 and later. Users transitioning from the Blueye File Transfer App do not need to install anything new, the Web App fully replaces previous file transfer workflows.
