What we're working on this summer
Much of our summer centers on one project. It’s an underwater laser system that began life as a bachelor’s thesis, and the goal is to get it ready by the end of the internship. Alongside this, we’re supporting the team with product development, electronics, production, and marketing, plus other day-to-day tasks. On the mechanical and electronics side, that means refining the design and building the prototyping and calibration tools needed to get it working reliably on the ROVs. On the content side, it means documenting and marketing that journey as it happens. With a mix of skills and interests, we’re contributing across both the technical and communication sides of Blueye.

Wilhelm Tarøy & Bjarke Flatekval Petersen - Mechanical Engineer Interns
3rd year Mechanical Engineering, NTNU
As mechanical engineering interns, Wilhelm and Bjarke are continuing to develop the laser project they started at Blueye, with a focus on the mechanical design: refining the housing so it's compact enough for underwater use and ready for integration on Blueye ROVs. This summer they have completed the second design iteration and improved the calibration process, resulting in better accuracy and more reliable measurements. Alongside this, they have taken on other mechanical tasks including GPS housing redesigns, production, and ROV servicing and repairs.

Kristian Gillebo & Markus Sandvik - Electronics Engineer Interns
3rd year Electronic Systems Engineering, NTNU
As electronics engineering interns, Kristian and Markus are working on prototyping for Blueye ROVs, currently focused on building cables and other electronics for Blueye X7. They are also completing a calibration jig for the parallel laser system they developed together with Wilhelm and Bjarke during their bachelor's thesis, helping ensure accurate calibration and reliable performance out in the field.

Hanna Utne - Content Creator Intern
2nd year Business Administration, NTNU. Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, NTNU
Hanna is joining the commercial team this summer, working across general marketing and content creation to tell the stories behind the technology we develop. Her work includes producing content for the web and social media, along with photo and video material to promote Blueye's products. She'll also be following the summer's laser project closely, documenting its progress along the way.
